Anonymous asked: I never seen a Cham/Cambodian Muslim. That's super cool. No disrespect, but are you a convert?
Oh none taken! When I say Cham I don’t mean Chamarro lol. I am Cham of the Kingdom of Champa (before colonialism… We don’t have a country) and the majority of us actually converted into Islam in the 11th century through Arab traders who cut through Vietnam in route to China during the Tang Dynasty. Chams have been traditionally identified with Islam in Indochina.
I’m pretty surprised when I tell people here that I’m Cham an they know what it is. First I tell them I’m Cambodian and then the second time they ask I confess to being Cham from Cambodia and they know what it is! It’s so crazy! The president of the Vietnamese club asked me to join their meeting next week but the vietnamese ppl took my land.. Lol whatevs I still need to build up the courage to join the Filipino club lol. I think I’ll fit in!
I’m working on my paper about my rare ethnic background
Champa, Chinese Lin-yi,
ancient Indochinese kingdom lasting from the 2nd to the 17th century ad and extending over the central and southern coastal region of Vietnam from roughly the 18th parallel in the north to Point Ke Ga (Cape Varella) in the south. Established by the Cham, a people of Malayo-Polynesian stock and Indianized culture, Champa was finally absorbed by the Vietnamese, who in turn were strongly influenced by Cham culture.
Vietnamese culture is strongly influenced by us because they took our land! PHO WAS OUR INVENTION!
I know its not actual proof but maybeeee
