My vietnamese friend constantly refer to me as mountain people. According to him the vietnamese say that Cham people are people of the mountain. He jokes and makes gorilla sounds saying that is how Cham people talk. He also says that when Cambodians talk it sounds like their eating candy. 

My retaliation? When Vietnamese people talk it sounds like they’re slurping pho! lol It’s a joke calm down I’m not trying to hate on yalls. Me and my friends just have that comfortable relationship. We go and get pho a lot and I’m always clowning on him. “Shit, I shouldnt eat my pho too fast I might say something offensive.” Or I’ll just make slurping noises when I try to speak vietnamese to them.

So I told my dad the joke. 

Me: Yah, my friend said that when Cambodian people talk it sounds like their eating candy.

Dad: … 

Me: Then I told him when Vietnamese people talk it sounds like they’re eating katiew. *sluping noises*

Dad: HAHAHAHAHHAA that is so true it does sound like it huh?! hahahahahah

My dad laughs like a hyena. 

I’m pretty surprised when I tell people here that I’m Cham an they know what it is. First I tell them I’m Cambodian and then the second time they ask I confess to being Cham from Cambodia and they know what it is! It’s so crazy! The president of the Vietnamese club asked me to join their meeting next week but the vietnamese ppl took my land.. Lol whatevs I still need to build up the courage to join the Filipino club lol. I think I’ll fit in!

Established by the Cham, a people of Malayo-Polynesian stock and Indianized culture, Champa was finally absorbed by the Vietnamese, who in turn were strongly influenced by Cham culture.

Vietnamese culture is strongly influenced by us because they took our land! PHO WAS OUR INVENTION!
